Food tasting: Amreli, Hotel Diplomat

What’s up guys? I hope you’re enjoying the nip in the air.  To make most of the weather, I headed to Amreli, Hotel Diplomat to get a taste of their all new menu!  I am constantly looking for places with a great ambience and food that’s value for money!

Ambience
Famous for its chic restaurant, Olive, Amreli is now Hotel Diplomat’s ONLY restaurant and bar. The decor and layout is pleasant and comfortable since there is an indoor and outdoor space. Since I went for a lunch review, I chose to sit indoors. The only change I’d make in Amreli’s decor would be the overcrowded walls; for me, minimalism adds to the idea and illusion of space. However, the view of the garden as sunlight gazed through the windows, made it  a nice setup. I’d love to go back there in the evening: fairy lights, heaters and great food add up to my-kinda-place.

Food Selection
Amreli has an interesting Menu with a variety of cuisines (Mughlai, Coastal food, Pan Asian selections). However, the number of dishes are limited; meaning whatever is there, is good. As usual, I opted for a tasting menu and here’s what I have to say:
We started with a Spanish Salad with fresh amarnath leaves with honey-lemon dressing topped with sesame seeds that was crispy and tasty. I feel salads have to be yummy or it’s just a food crime! Next up was paneer tikka with plum chutney, barbecue button mushrooms, bell and succulent fish tikka. The appetisers were wholesome and more importantly, fresh off the grill.

We enjoyed a variety of chicken, prawn and mutton satays that complemented well with peanut and teriyaki sauce. To my surprise, I absolutely loved eating tofu and bokchoy steamed momos OVER chicken dumplings with sesame seeds.
Never did I think I’d love a veggie momo!

After that I needed a break: I sipped on my drink as we prepped for the main course. They have a well-stocked Bar with a veteran bartender whose very good at  mixology: I tried the Negroni and was satisfied!

Come time for main course and the highlights were: paneer tikka labbabdar and mutton stew which tasted great with butter naan. Coastal food picks were chicken chettinad, vegetarian and chicken stew with egg appams. Being an appam admirer, I am always looking for places with great coastal food and you won’t be disappointed at Amreli.

This sumptuous tasting was rounded with a delectable helping of Tiramisu, which honestly  looked better than it tasted. I guess I’ll always compare it to the ones I relished in Rome.
All in all, it’s a great place for good food with family and friends.  A big thank you to Chef Neelam and Mr Rawat, the restaurant manager and the wait staff at Amreli! Finally, a shoutout to PR Pro Vanita Chitkara!
