Makeup brushes, sponges and beauty blenders are the go-to-gods for achieve a flawless finish. Be it concealing your pimples just getting the winged liner right, you need your tools. Having said that, you need to keep your makeup brushes, sponges and makeup kit/stand STARK CLEAN. I skipped one cleaning this month and ended up with a huge-ass pimple (it could be the sugar too, but I’ll never know).
Let’s start with the basics of cleaning make-up brushes:
How to Clean Makeup Brushes: Liquid soap is easier to work with. Wet the bristles and squeeze a bit of liquid soap/shampoo/baby soap on top of the bristles. This is the part where you carefully avoid the handle. Now work up the lather and wash the soap off. Let the brushes air-dry. DO NOT use a blow-dryer.
DIY Makeup Brush Cleanser: Make your own makeup brush cleaner by storing a mixture of olive oil and soap. Take two parts shampoo/liquid soap, one part olive oil and water and store it in a small bottle. Take it in a small bowl/plate, lather up the brushes after every 20-30 days. Let them air-dry under a clean towel/tissue.
How to clean a beauty blender/makeup sponge: Beauty blenders are a favourite amongst makeup artists, models, Vloggers and more! They lend a beautiful natural finish to your foundation but can be full of bacteria. Dip the slimmer part of your beauty blender in soap and add a little water to it. Work up a lather with clean fingers and wash it off. Let it dry.
How to clean your makeup kit: I usually take a clean cloth to wipe off stains and wash it if need be. Another way to clean your box/stand is to wipe it thoroughly with anti-bacterial wipes.
