Party Makeup Trend #1 Metallic Eyes

Rock your look with high-shine pigments in silver, gold, browns and even shades of green and blue. You can pick from a barely-there colour to a very dramatic look, depending on the setting and mood.

How To Get Metallic Eyes

Start by swiping a black eyeliner from the inner to the outer corner of your eyes. Then, use a brush to blend in pigment on the eyelids. Run the shadow over the liner for a metallic effect, says New Delhi-based celebrity make-up artist and Women’s Health columnist, Ambika Pillai. Apply a little eyeshadow under the eye to complete the look, adds New Delhi-based make-up artist, Ashima Kapoor.

Tip: Wet your brush before you apply a metallic eye shadow on the lids for greater shine, says Kapoor.

Try: M.A.C Glamour Daze Divine Blue, price on request; Estee Lauder Pure Colour Vivid Shine Cyber Silver, Rs 1,950; Lakme Absolute Day Queen Rs 595; Inglot AMC Pure Pigment Eye Shadow in #69 and #70, Rs 700, L’Oreal Paris Infallible Monos, Rs 450.

Party Makeup Trend #2 Graphic Liner

Grab attention with ’50s-style geometrical swipes of eyeliner in black, brown or blue.

How To Get Graphic Liner

Use a liquid or gel liner to line the upper lid, starting from the inner corner, making it thicker as you go outwards. To make it easier, mark the outer corner of the upper lids and then run backwards to the inner corner. “Finish by making a triangle at the outer lid to keep the focus on your eyes,” says Pillai.

Tip: To experiment with diverse hues, take any metallic eyeshadow, mix some colour with water (using a wet brush) or try Inglot Duraline, `450 and make your liner, suggests Kapoor.

Try: Inglot AMC Gel Eyeliner #77, Rs 680; Inglot AMC Kajal #101, Rs 650; Lakme Eyeconic Kajal, Rs 199; M.A.C Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Navy Stain, Rs 950, Revlon Grow Luscious Eyeliner, Rs 450.

Party Makeup Trend #3: Wine Stained Lips

Get bold with red wine- or dark berry-hued lips, it’s sexy and classic.

How To Get Wine Stained Lips

Most shades of dark red suit Indian skintones, says Pillai. Define your lips with a red lip liner. Use a red-hued lip colour and “dab a wine-coloured stain on your lips with your fingers,” says Kapoor.

Tip: Keep your eye make-up to a minimum, say, experts. Stay away from glossy colours and blot excess oil from lipsticks for a matte finish.

Try: Estee Lauder Pure Colour Plumberry, Rs 1,735; M.A.C Marilyn Monroe Charmed I’m Sure, Rs 1050; Maxfactor Flipstick Gipsy Red, Rs 800.

Party Makeup Trend #4 Dip Dyed Hair

Add vibrance to your strands with a dash of colour at the tips. If you want to play it safe opt for the ombre fade-out style; the look is more understated. Dip-dyed hair, on the other hand, is striking, “with shades of burgundy from the mid-section to the ends,” says Kolkata-based Fiama Di Wills hair expert, Priscilla Corner.

How To Get Dip Dyed Hair

“It’s not a technique that can be achieved at home by simply dipping the ends of your hair in colour,” cautions hair expert and Women’s Health columnist, Rod Anker. It is essential you make an appointment with a professional because your hair will most likely need to be pre-lightened or bleached. At the Salon: Once you decide on the length and the tone of the colour, your colourist will likely section your hair in a brick pattern, progressing through the inner crown area. Your hair will then be pre-lightened and finally dyed the colour of your choice. If you’re brave enough, consider a shade of blue or purple.

Tip: Discuss it with your colourist first. If you have a darker natural colour, choose how intense you’d want the colour to be. Visualise along with the pro the overall effect-subtle or extreme, says Anker.

Try: Try L’Oreal Paris Excellence Creme Range, Rs 550 upwards, Wella Brilliant Colour Range, Rs 475 upwards and Wella Koleston Colour Range , Rs 899 upwards.

Party Makeup Trend #5 Embellished Nails

The French manicure is on its way out; while nude nail colours like gold, beige and light brown-with embellishments-are in vogue. Besides these, dark mauve, bottle green and indigo are some of the hottest nail colours this season, says Chandigarh-based nail expert, Pammi Kaul, of the Scratch Spa chain. Use these colours by themselves or in combination with another.

How To Get Embellished Nails

While opting for embellishments, you can pick lighter or darker contrasting crystals with the nail colour, to suit your taste. Make sure you go to a professional nail salon that uses sterilised tools or carry your own, says Kaul. DIY? Make sure you use a base coat to avoid a yellowish tinge.

Tip: Load the brush, clean it from one side and swipe in an arc across the nail from the tip to the base. This will help keep the nail paint away from the cuticle, says Kaul. Keep a toothpick with you to avoid the colour from spilling out of the nails.

Try: Lancome Vernis in Love Aquamarine, Rs 800; Estee Lauder Pure Colour Viper, Rs 1,390; M.A.C Nail Lacquer Skin, Rs 950; Lakme Fast & Fabulous Storm Green, Rs 199, Sally Hansen Diamond Strength in Silver, Rs 395.
