Long gone are the days of women raving about shimmer shadows. The matte revolution has taken everyone through a spin. While strobing and contouring your face needs a few illuminating products, bright shimmer is far from trends. Truth be told: the matte makeup trend is going BIG this year. So we thought we’d do a post with everything you should know about matte makeup: read foundation, lipsticks, eyeshadows and nail paints.
What is Matte Makeup?
Simply put, matte makeup is anything that doesn’t even an element of sheen to it. They also use slightly different ingredients like silica powder, or iron oxides, that are low on reflection and high on a velvety finish. A lot of brands pride themselves on the finish of a product, sometimes making them oil-free, fragrance-free etc.
We at Be For Beauty love matte products, especially this time of the year, because you don’t have to bother about smudged makeup. Your matte foundation will not need a touch up, and a matte lipstick doesn’t feather out. So win, win!
Here are tips to make the most of it:
- Make the most of foundations for long hours: If you’re heading to work, chances are you don’t want to redo your foundation. So check out the mattifying formulas: apply with your fingers for a natural effect or else use a clean sponge/brush. Don’t forget applying a face/eye cream prior to makeup. The beauties with oily skin type love the new matte revolution. Some of these products absorb oil and give the skin an all over matte look making the skin look smoother too! We like Maybelline Matte Mousse Foundation ‘coz it’s super light on your skin. You can also try Makeup Revolution London Golden Matte Foundation or Laura Mercier Smooth Focus Pressed Setting Powder Shine Control In Matte to finish your makeup.
- Whipping up the ‘no makeup’ eye shadow trend: Instead of shading your eyelids with sparkling shadows, try a natural, flesh tone on your peepers. Want an everyday look? Swipe a light brown eyeshadow on the lid and highlighting the brow bone with a bone coloured shadow. Pop a lip shade on and you are good to go. Love neutrals? Try Makeup Revolution London Essential Mattes.
- Stay high on pigment with a matte shade: A matte lipstick will not let you share your burger with it, unlike glosses. No more lip marks on white clothes and cheeks of chubby babies. Matte lip colours are a current Be For Beauty simply because they’re good on intensity, and don’t feather out of your lip line–a common problem amongst glosses and creamy shades. Apply a lip liner similar to the colour of your lipstick and you can admire your lip colour all day. Our favourites include Lakme Absolute Mauve Fix and Sugar Matte As Hell Crayon Lipstick in Fuchsia.
- Enjoy the sophistication of matte nails: Matte nails were a huge rage on Pinterest! Apart from looking fabulous, the best part about applying a matte coat is that it minimises chips and scratches. Since brands like Essie, Butter and Jin Soon are not available in India (officially), I suggest you try Colorbar’s Matte Top Coat.
