A great weekend is only complete with a timeout at a spa. I was glad to have an invite to Pushkar Resorts in house spa named Kaivalya Spa.
Location and Ambience
A level above the reception is a three room spa retreat. I saw 2 treatment rooms and was treated in the couples’ suite. Upon my arrival, I was told I’d be availing a relaxing Abhyanga massage.
As a spa enthusiast, I believe that the setting of the spa, a play with the elements is how you can get the most from a spa treatment. While Kaivalya Spa has all the essentials: the right massage table, a Jacuzzi and steam and shower cubicle, the room is bare and has too much light coming in that may hamper the whole experience.
My masseuse, Sartaj, trained for Ajmer used olive oil with rose essential oils for a 40 minute full body massage. An Abhyanga massage is ideally meant to balance all the doshas, apart from feeling refreshed and relaxed. The massage did nothing for my doshas but the therapist was well-versed with her strokes and very thorough in her work.
Looking back, I didn’t really have a chance to look at the menu and wanted to make sure I tried the best treatment which obviously wasn’t Abhyanga. An organic rose facial could have been a better choice.
The best part was that all the herbs and spices that are used in the treatments like neem, tulsi, aloe vera, coconut, lemongrass, hibiscus, henna, rosewater and amla are sourced from the property itself. This is a great example of sustainability and I totally appreciate it.
After the massage, I decided to take a steam and a shower in the cubicle. Small tweaks like more space and safety handles will help ensure safety. Also, the therapist kept coming in: a little bit of privacy in the spa suite will put customers at ease.
