As a profession, public relations, (PR), is quite hectic. Add to that, their work keeps them well informed on the newest skincare products, technologies and communication strategies that have us all in a bind. In this edition of our skincare series, I interview Anindita Kannan, a longtime PR colleague whose always had wonderful skin and a great attitude. Keep reading to know how she tackles sensitive and acne-prone skin, anxiety and her favourite skincare products that have actually paid off.
Q: Please introduce yourself.
Answer: I am Anindita Kannan, I’m all of 30 and I work as a brand solution and communications specialist. I currently work at a lifestyle brand management agency, Peepul, and head of the Bangalore office.
Q: Are There Particular Ingredients That Have Always Been A Part Of Your Skincare Routine?
Answer: Neem Oil and tea tree oil have always been a part of my skincare routine since my teens. I’ve always sensitive and acne-prone skin, so these oils always helped in controlling excessive sebum without using harsh products. I still use these oils in the morning to massage my face right before my morning shower.
I also make most of a gramflour-milk mask for a quick glow. During hostel days, a salon visit was a luxury; therefore, homemade masks with oats and milk, hair mask with egg and curd came to my rescue. Also, regular scalp massages have always been a part of my haircare routine.
Q: What’s Your Summer Skincare Routine?
Answer: My skincare regime starts with the quick face massage before my morning shower. Post that I apply a light gel-based day cream and top it up with a sunscreen. I keep a face mist handy to spray it during the day, especially before a meeting to keep my face feeling fresh. Q: Please tell us your quarantine skincare routine and hair routine.
Answer: Since we’ve gotten so much more time, I’ve started using a sheet mask regularly and an eye cooling patch before I sleep that reduce puffiness and makes me feel relaxed.
I’ve started using a homemade hair pack with aloe Vera, fresh cream (taken from full cream milk) and honey.
I’ve been using this every week. Quarantine has also given me time for more foot soaks. We often forget to take care of our feet, and this is a great time to ensure moisturising and scrubbing.
Q: How often do you opt for a facial? Is there a particular facial you like?
Answer: Since we have a lot more natural and fruit-based facials these days, I opt for once a month. There is one I particularly love called Comfort Zone.
Q: We know that beautiful skin has a lot to do with mental health, food and lifestyle. How do you deal with anxiety and stress?
Answer: I’ve been dealing with anxiety over the past few years. I realised that only if I keep my body active and fit, the better I feel. Basically, it’s replacing your negative energy with something positive. Again, when you have an active lifestyle which doesn’t mean you need to go to the gym or do yoga. It could be dancing, playing sports, taking the stairs or anything simple. There is a special glow on your face when you have a fulfilling day.
Q: Are you on supplements for your skin?
Answer: Since I’m vegetarian, I’ve started taking Omega-3 fatty acid supplements. Apart from that, I rely on fresh fruits and green vegetables.
